Ergon Ensemble, an ensemble specialising in contemporary music, was conceived within the Paxos Festival’s separate Summer Event under the guidance of the Ensemble Modern. It has regularly been performing for the past 6 years in the most important music venues and festivals of Athens, which include the Megaron-The Athens Concert Hall, the Hellenic Festival and the Onassis Cultural Centre Athens, enjoying critical acclaim from the Greek press and audience. Being one of Greece’s leading contemporary music ensembles, its mission is to promote, through its virtuosic and ambitious performances, masterpieces of contemporary music, particularly the most recent works of Greek and foreign composers.
As an Athens-Greece based ensemble with an advantage of direct access to the Greek contemporary compositions, its ultimate aim is the promotion of Greek musical creation in the international music scene.
Ergon, founded in 2008, is based on a core formation of soloists and is joined by talented artists specialized in new music, shaping a flexible musical ensemble of any requirement. Its members are some of the most talented young musicians, all participants of the International Ensemble Modern Academy. The musicians of Ergon come from a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds, but share a love for contemporary music performing and a commitment to excellence in performance.
Within the principal activities of the ensemble, apart from concerts, are: CD recordings, educational activities and inter-disciplinary collaborations combining various forms of performing arts such as Dance, Music Theatre and Multimedia.
The work of the Ensemble is generously supported by the Ernst Von Siemens Music Foundation.
